Living in a deprived area of Baltimore, 13-year-old Pug dreams of riding with the 12 O’ Clock Boys; a local group of motorbike riders whose impressive stunts and conflicts with local police bewitch the young boy.
Lotfy Nathan’s directorial debut, 12 O’ Clock Boys, looks set to be enthralling and heartbreaking in equal measure in its depiction of a specific social area and its endemic aspirations. Nathan clearly felt affinity along with a degree of care towards the engaging Pug, and it will be interesting to see how this will work within the documentary format. Nathan, as has been reported, compels Pug to move to safety in one scene: how will this interaction impact the audience? I’m looking forward to finding out. The trailer demonstrates beautifully shot cinematography juxtaposed with the grim realities of Pug’s life: certainly a documentary to anticipate.
