Within the last two weeks the first two trailers for Stoker, the latest and first English language effort from Park Chan-wook, have arrived. Both trailers are undoubtedly quite stunning, atmospheric, and wonderfully shot. The central conceit, of a young girl’s increasing fascination with her sinister uncle after her father has died, is certainly intriguing, made all the more so by its faultless cast.
Mia Wasikowska, certainly one of the best young actors currently working, looks set to impress as the friendless India. Nicole Kidman, who despite the occasional misstep (Bewitched anyone?), appears to be on formhere plays India’s unstable mother. With the excellent Matthew Goode rounding out the cast, Stoker looks both thrilling and engaging thanks to its well-constructed, promising trailers.
