Casino Royale was undoubtedly controversial in the lead up to its release, with the majority of the apparent controversy focussed upon the casting of Daniel Craig. Despite those disparaging murmurs, Craig quickly proved his worth as the latest Bond incarnation. Whilst Casino Royale heralded the real possibility of a ‘game-changer’, the lacklustre confusion of Quantum of Solace indicated the fallibility of the franchise.
Skyfall, however, looks incredibly promising, although the success of the execution remains to be seen. Sam Mendes’ directorial efforts not only fill me with hope, but with real interest, and I look forward to seeing his artistic decisions.
The cast is, as ever, excellent; Ben Whishaw as Q is a nice fit, and Javier Bardem has already proven his credentials in playing the villain. The trailer, adopting a rather muted tone, is certainly not lacking on action or the scope of locations. I can only hope it lives up to the hype.
