Looper, the latest effort from director Rian Johnson (best known for the excellent Brick), has a lot going for it: a great cast, an intriguing concept and a style that looks genuinely exciting.
Joe (the ever brilliant Joseph Gordon-Levitt), is an assassin, existing in a world in which time-travel is used to send criminals from the future back into the present. Once sent back, Joe, as a ‘Looper’, dispatches with them efficiently. Joe is warned to never let the criminals escape, but when one of the criminals proves to be Joe himself in future form (Bruce Willis), his hesitation leads to his future form’s escape.
Combining high-concept sci-fi with a very definite film-noir style, Looper fills me with high expectations.
