Produced and co-written by Luc Besson, Lock-Out is the feature directorial debut from James Mather and Stephen St Leger. The high-concept thriller depicts a society in which high-security prisoners are kept on an orbiting prison in space. Guy Pearce stars as a wrongfully convicted government agent, promised his freedom if he can save Maggie Grace’s president’s daughter, who is trapped onboard.
High-concept aside, Lock-Out could have proven to be an enjoyable, escapist distraction, but the trailer indicates clichéd dialogue, the overt use of narration to describe events or background and stereotyped gender roles. I’m not holding out much hope for this one.
