Regardless of your own particular opinion of Roman Polanski and his previous acts, his ability as a director has surely never been in doubt.
His latest effort, Carnage, based upon the play God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, boasts a hugely talented cast: Kate Winslet and Christopher Waltz, John C. Reilly and Jodie Foster as two couples who undergo an increasingly acrimonious dispute over their own child and each child’s involvement in a supposed altercation.
The trailer impresses: Foster and Winslet particularly are both excellent actresses. Waltz, since his appearance in Inglorious Basterds has become increasingly in demand, whilst Reilly is consistently outstanding.
The black-humour aspect looks perfectly pitched, with each cast member acting wonderfully outlandish whilst remaining in control at all times. Certainly a film to look forward to, and if successful in its execution, I wouldn’t be surprised, albeit tentatively, to see the film performing well during Awards season.
