The Iron lady – Trailer

Meryl Streep’s acting ability is certainly never in doubt and I am sure her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher will be both flawless and accurate. It is not Streep’s casting that interests me about director Phyllida Lloyd’s The Iron Lady but rather the political approach the film will undertake.

It feels like a cheap, underhanded direction, if reports are true, to focus on Thatcher’s groundbreaking work as the first female Prime Minister, triumphing over the male-dominated environment.  Certainly this fact is never in doubt, but the film itself should surely focus upon all aspects of her government, including its affects upon Britain at the time, encompassing both the positive and the negative.
